15 Jun “Superfoods”: Boost your health now!

Aside from this weekend being Father’s Day, did you know that Men’s Health Awareness Week is also happening this week? Yes! June 10 -16 is proclaimed as Men’s Health Awareness Week.

As part of the two celebrations, let us share 10 “superfoods” to improve every man’s health.

  1. Lean Meat– Lean cuts of meat from organically raised chicken, pork, and grass-fed beef are packed with protein and the right amount of fat (shoot for breasts, loins, and tenderloins for your leanest cuts). These also a good source of an amino acid called leucine that helps to build muscle.
  1. Chocolate: Yes! The right kind of chocolate may improve blood circulation. The flavanols from dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa) curb the levels of bad cholesterol and regulate blood pressure.
  1. Shellfish: Shellfish and other types of seafood are rich in zinc, which is good for the heart, muscles, and reproductive system.
  1. Avocado: This fruit is rich with one of the “good” fats. It has monosaturated fat that knocks down the total cholesterol, especially the bad one (LDL)
  1. Ginger: Workout really hard and push yourself to the limit? Get some ginger tea, ginger capsules, or grated ginger. It may help reduce exercise-related pain.
  1. Bananas: Many of us know that bananas are rich in potassium, but did you know that potassium is critical for muscle contraction and bone health? Aside from that, it also regulates blood pressure.

  1. Soy foods: According to findings from 40 countries, soy is by far the best food to protect men from prostate cancer. Easy to incorporate sources include tofu, miso soup, and soy milk.
  1. Green Leafy Vegetables: Spinach, collard greens, and kale have plenty of lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect us against cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.
  1. Berries: All berries are loaded with antioxidants that lower the risk of cancer and enhance one’s memory.
